SO THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE

C.E.M.P. is an all-volunteer suburban Search & Rescue team based in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. Established in 1962, we have been serving the communities of Los Angeles and aiding multiple emergency agencies for over a half century.

WHAT WE GET ASKED THE MOST

To provide area emergency agencies with needed assistance for missing person searches, evidence searches, body recovery, disaster response, evacuations and other emergency assignments.  We volunteer our time and take extraordinary measures to ensure said agencies that our members are here to help – to give back to the community – and to only provide assistance when called upon.  We never self-deploy.

We’re very proud of our history in Los Angeles.  As the city’s only true suburban search & rescue team we have enjoyed over a half century of respect and acceptance with all area emergency agencies.  We started as a communication team back in 1962, to aid radio communication efforts for a missing person. And we’ve grown leaps and bounds since.  Visit our About Page to learn more about us, and visit our Virtual Museum Page to learn about our roots.
If you are a private citizen in need of our services, please contact your local police department or call 9-1-1. C.E.M.P. never “self-deploys,” meaning we only serve the needs of a governing emergency agency and not the general public’s requests. We pride ourselves on our adherence to proper protocol, California regulations and the ICS (Incident Command System).

If you are a division of the LAPD, simply contact RACR and they will deploy us. If you are an area agency other than LAPD, we ask that you deploy us by use of our 24/7 paging system. If you are unfamiliar with this system, please contact us at (866) 448-3212 and we will issue this to you.

C.E.M.P. is always accepting new members. You must be at least 18 years of age, live within an hour response time to the San Fernando Valley, and possess a current California driver’s license.

You will also be required to undergo a background check (including fingerprint scan), six month applicant period, three month probationary period and be able to commit to an average of 10-40 hours per month in volunteer service.

To learn more about our requirements and expectations, visit our Recruitment Page.

C.E.M.P. is an all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit organization. Although utilized by many area agencies, we are not funded and not part of any County, City or State budget. Therefore all of our operating funds come from out-of-pocket expenses and donations. Over the past five decades we have saved the taxpayers millions of dollars in operating costs. Your tax-deductible contribution will help us maintain the quality of service that our area has come to expect.
